Our Story

A Ministry Built On Presence

Mwalimu Bora is a ministry of Timazi Africa; a non-denominational ministry that proclaims the Gospel of Jesus Christ to High school students in Africa — to know Him, love Him, and live for Him and make Him known. We further seek to resource those who minister to the High School student (Educator/Youth Pastor/Parent) through training and publishing discipleship resources.

Mwalimu Bora is the Teacher Formation Program at Timazi Africa. After serving for a long time as itinerary preachers in high schools, we appreciate that teachers are best placed to disciple students. They are more effective because they are there with them all the time as opposed to a preacher who comes only occasionally. It is our conviction that our best input is to support the teacher by equipping, prayer, encouragement, and providing resources needed to do the work of discipleship.

Mwalimu Bora seeks to integrate this vision and training early enough while the teacher is in training.

Our Mission

To train Bachelor and Diploma of Education students to become effective Christian teachers among High School students.

The Product

Christian teachers teaching effectively in high schools while discipling students into Christlikeness.

Formation is a concept from the spiritual traditions, and it involves a concern for personal wholeness. Where training asks if the person has the right knowledge and technique, formation asks after the state of the person's soul. Where training offers the person new data and methods, formation offers the person help in discerning his or her identity and integrity.

Four objectives shape every stage of our curriculum design.

Personal Discipleship

God seeks to develop a personal relationship with every believer (John 1:12; 17:3; Romans 8:14–17) — a relationship that takes conscious effort, endurance, and sacrifice. A teacher can only give what he has.

Youth Ministry in the 21st Century

Maturity leads to reproduction. Our teachers are formed to disciple and multiply from the onset — commissioned as 21st-century youth ministers into a wide harvest field of schools across Africa.

The Christian Teacher in the Classroom

We train teachers to develop a biblical mind on education itself — integrating faith into how they teach, discipline, and grade, so there is no dichotomy between their walk and their work.

The Christian Teacher in the Frontier

Teaching is one of the most in-demand careers in closed nations. We prepare teachers to serve at the frontier, where schools are a major point of contact between the Gospel and society.
